Which Fender Mustang LT25 amp model for Money for Nothing?

70S ROCK. Knopfler's Les Paul went into a Marshall JTM45 and a Laney 4x12. Fender's list has no JTM45, but it has two Marshalls: 70S ROCK, inspired by a late-'60s or early-'70s Super Lead, and 80S ROCK, inspired by the JCM800. The Super Lead is the earlier of the two, and the song needs crunch rather than '80s metal gain, so start there.

Pick the amp model with the encoder first, then set the knobs. The LT25 has knobs for Gain, Volume, Treble, Bass and Master Volume, and no Middle knob. Fender's manual says Middle is set only from the encoder: press it on the amp model, scroll to MIDDLE and turn.

Does it sound off on your Mustang LT25?

Pick what you hear. You get the knobs to turn on the LT25 from the settings above, and how far.

What the LT25 cannot do for Money for Nothing

The LT25 has no pedal-controlled wah: Fender describes TOUCH WAH as controlled by picking dynamics rather than an expression pedal, so it will not hold one position the way a wah pedal can. The record's honk also came from microphones left in odd positions, which no amp setting recreates. Raise Middle from the encoder before you reach for more Gain.

How to store it on the LT25

Press SAVE once it sounds right. Fender's manual says an unsaved edit reverts when you leave the preset or switch the amp off. Master Volume is not stored in a preset.

What Dire Straits used on Money for Nothing

Mark Knopfler's Gibson Les Paul, played with his fingers into his guitar tech Ron Eve's Marshall JTM45 and the studio's Laney 4x12 cabinet, with a Cry Baby wah as the only significant pedal and microphones left in odd positions giving a sound nobody could repeat later.
